How under-tile heating is installed
A typical install follows these steps:
- Floor preparation (and waterproofing in wet areas)
- Heating mat or cable laid to the room layout and tested
- Floor probe positioned for the thermostat
- Tiles laid in a flexible adhesive bed over the heating
- Re-test, then final connection by a licensed electrician
Best tiles for underfloor heating
Porcelain and ceramic tiles and natural stone all conduct heat well. Very large-format tiles are fine too — they just need a well-prepared, flat floor. We'll advise on the best choice before you buy.

Can underfloor heating be added under existing tiles?
Not without lifting the existing tiles. It's best installed during a renovation or new build when the floor is being tiled anyway.
Is electric underfloor heating expensive to run?
Running cost depends on the area, insulation and how you use the thermostat and timer. Heating only the rooms you use most, like the bathroom, keeps it economical.
Who connects the power?
Electrical connections must be done by a licensed electrician. We coordinate this as part of the job.
